So what does a designer's kitchen look like? When John Newmyer remodeled his outdated, small kitchen and adjoining great room, no detail was left untouched. A small addition was incorporated and walls were moved internally to create a warm, spacious traditional country kitchen opening into the lakefront great room. Heated limestone floors keep the great room and kitchen cozy while affording a spectacular view and access to the exterior patio and lake. Stained wood cathedral ceilings and a large fireplace help take the chill off the great room in the cool evening hours. |

Reworking the existing formal dining room and kitchen to create a more open floor plan, yet maintain separation between the kitchen and dining room areas were the owner's primary concerns. Newmyer Distinctive Remodeling removed walls and provided structural changes to add a set of double 10 light pocket doors which elegantly closes dining from the kitchen, yet offers a spectacular view of both spaces from either room. The pocket doors are flanked by tall pantry cabinets in the kitchen, and a china hutch and buffet in the formal dining room. |

Special Design Features: Sleek, clean lines were accomplished by using a shaker-style, cherry cabinet. White Crown moulding at the ceiling lines soften the dark cherry tones. Hand-cut slate tile backsplash was requested by the owner. Under cabinet plug strips clean up the contemporary slate backsplash with only one double light switch visible, cut into the pattern.

Opening up the main floor plan and installing vaulted ceilings were primary concerns for our designer in helping this homeowner create a new, spacious kitchen with old-world traditional design and detailing. Since the existing office and hallway off the original nook were no longer needed, walls were removed to incorporate this entire floor space into one large, kitchen/nook area. The new layout creates room for the owner's frequent entertaining plus ample display of her collection of Blue Willow China and fine antiques. An expansive central island offers additional seating, storage, display and convenient counter/work space to serve guests as they circulate around and return to the antique oak plank table set in the nook. |

Special Design Features: Large Open Floor plan with vaulted ceilings, ceramic backsplash with Blue Willow hadn-painted accenting tile, antique lights and ceiling fan. |
